Este post cita como ejemplo el trabajo de la Fundaci\u00f3n 101 Genomas. Este es un ejemplo muy concreto de los avances que se pueden conseguir procesando grandes cantidades de datos, lo que se conoce como Big Data, y utilizando la inteligencia artificial. Recientemente se ha creado en B\u00e9lgica la Fundaci\u00f3n 101 Genomas, cuyo objetivo es fomentar la investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica sobre enfermedades raras poniendo a disposici\u00f3n de los investigadores una base de datos con informaci\u00f3n sobre los genomas de pacientes que padecen enfermedades raras. El genoma es el conjunto de caracter\u00edsticas gen\u00e9ticas codificadas en el ADN: el genoma humano contiene miles de millones de datos. Gracias al big data y a los algoritmos, ser\u00e1 posible cruzar datos de pacientes de todo el mundo en un intento de identificar genes modificadores que permitan proteger a determinados pacientes contra las principales enfermedades raras. Aislar estos genes permitir\u00e1 desarrollar tratamientos que reproduzcan sus efectos, para los pacientes m\u00e1s gravemente afectados. La Fundaci\u00f3n 101 Genomas ha puesto en marcha su primer proyecto piloto dedicado al s\u00edndrome de Marfan, un trastorno gen\u00e9tico poco frecuente. Gracias al Big Data y a la inteligencia artificial, podemos esperar futuros avances en el estudio y tratamiento de dichas enfermedades.
