La esperanza de vida estad\u00edstica de los pocos casos conocidos de esta forma de la enfermedad es de apenas 16 meses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fue en este dif\u00edcil contexto cuando empec\u00e9 a interesarme por la investigaci\u00f3n gen\u00f3mica y cuando se cre\u00f3 la F101G.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>LC: \u00bfQu\u00e9 ha aprendido?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">RA: Al examinar una base de datos gen\u00e9ticos de individuos \u00absanos\u00bb utilizada como control para la investigaci\u00f3n, descubr\u00ed que conten\u00eda numerosas variantes en el gen FBN1 consideradas variantes \u00abpatog\u00e9nicas\u00bb en el origen del s\u00edndrome de Marfan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>LC: Profesor Guillaume Smits, \u00bfqu\u00e9 implica esta observaci\u00f3n?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Guillaume Smits (GS): El descubrimiento de individuos aparentemente sanos (o cuya penetrancia de la enfermedad es tan baja que no son conscientes de que est\u00e1n enfermos) portadores de variantes patog\u00e9nicas plantea la posibilidad de que est\u00e9n gen\u00e9ticamente protegidos incluso de las formas m\u00e1s graves del s\u00edndrome de Marfan por la acci\u00f3n de un supuesto gen protector capaz de contrarrestar el fallo del gen FBN1 causante de la enfermedad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>LC: \u00bfPodr\u00eda la identificaci\u00f3n de este mecanismo conducir al desarrollo de nuevos tratamientos?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GS: Potencialmente, s\u00ed. Pero a\u00fan tenemos que identificarlo dentro del genoma, \u00a1lo cual no es poca cosa! Y antes de eso, hay que comprobar que las mutaciones identificadas no son fruto de errores de clasificaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>LC: \u00bfC\u00f3mo lo hacemos?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GS: Con el (ib)\u00b2, hemos desarrollado un algoritmo para comprobar cada mutaci\u00f3n concebible en el gen FBN1 utilizando inteligencia artificial. Esta herramienta bioinform\u00e1tica confirm\u00f3 que varias de las mutaciones identificadas por Romain son pat\u00f3genas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>LC: \u00bfQu\u00e9 pasa despu\u00e9s?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GS: La herramienta ya existente podr\u00eda mejorarse para ayudar a diagnosticar el s\u00edndrome de Marfan.
